Broken Self
A Dance Performance around Gender Norms
Broken Self invites us to explore the ways we perform and experience gender. Inspired by Judith Butler and Plato’s Androgyne, two performers use movement, gesture, dance, and outrageous expression to question how bodies are shaped by societal norms. Mixing clowning, drag, and playful exaggeration, they turn rigidity into humour and resistance, pushing embodiment to its extremes. Bold, physically intense, and conceptually sharp, Broken Self is a performative playground where gender is performed, challenged, and reimagined, leaving spectators seeing identity in a new light.
The performance has been presented at clubs, cabarets, bars, and cafés in Utrecht and Athens and participated in notable festivals such as 13th Thessaloniki Pride and 4th Festival of Contemporary Artistic Cabaret.
