As part of Utrecht Queer Culture Festival 2026, Broken Self invites us to explore the ways we perform and experience gender. Inspired by Judith Butler and Plato’s Androgyne, two performers use movement, gesture, dance, and outrageous expression to question how bodies are shaped by societal norms. Mixing clowning, drag, and playful exaggeration, they turn rigidity into humour and resistance, pushing embodiment to its extremes. Bold, physically intense, and conceptually sharp, Broken Self is a theatrical playground where gender is performed, challenged, and reimagined, leaving spectators seeing identity in a new light.
