Hark! The time has come for the second edition of the annual A Very Rotten Christmas at ACU. This time we’re serving you a three course meal of tears, cheers and existential fears in the form of Eindhoven darlings EDLP, Arnhem puppies all dogs go to heaven and interprovincial heavyweights Bony Macaroni. Get in the spirit, sweat out the worldly tensions and remind yourself of what Christmas is about: love and hitting your friends in the teeth.

Bony Macaroni are proud makers of “fast, pathetic jams”. The band has mastered the art of writing emo pop songs about the hellish death spiral of a world we sometimes find ourselves in, with themes that are often existential and critical of the rat race capitalism forces us to join in order to survive. With their sophomore LP ‘Death Drive’ they’ve truly cemented their place in the Euro Emo pantheon.

all dogs go to heaven make emotional rock music in their mother tongue. Their sound balances melancholy with danceability, ear ripping feedback with acoustic riffs and woah’s with oh’s. Their EP ‘woof.wav’ is a sizzling six-pack of 90’s indie, 00’s pop punk, 10’s emo revival and 20’s existential dread.

EDLP emerged from a shared love for midwest emo, punk, pokémon cards and sobbing about your emotions. All the clichés are wrapped in a twist that really is uniquely their own, with catchy guitar riffs, anthemic choruses and sincere lyrics. With last year’s singles ‘Pretty’ and ‘Growing Up’ they’ve proved to truly be masters at their craft. Crying in da pit is permitted!
