Jena Jang
Jena Jang (born Yeaeun Jang) is an experimental musician, performer, and DIY instrument builder based between Czechia and South Korea. Their work merges noise, improvised vocals, and self-built electronics into raw, body-driven performances that explore emotion, transformation, and the boundaries between human and non-human sound. At the core of their practice is “Necrocore,” a self-coined concept describing a journey of somatic healing through sound and movement. Influenced by ancient rituals, butoh dance, and the aesthetics of danger music, Necrocore transforms intensity into release — channeling pain, memory, and energy into raw, immersive performance. They build and perform with hand-soldered, battery-powered circuits, using open-source synthesisers, circuit bending, and hybrid acoustic–electronic setups. Projects such as the Tupperware Synthesiser and Hairdryer Performance are deeply rooted in childhood memories of care and tenderness. The Tupperware Synthesiser recalls the lunches lovingly prepared by a mother for school picnics, while the Hairdryer Performance revisits the warmth of being cared for after a shower, when a mother gently dried their hair. These emotional objects act as vessels of healing — memories of love that melt the frozen layers of past trauma, transforming care and vulnerability into sound, ritual, and release. Beyond performance, they lead DIY synthesiser workshops and sound-based research projects that make experimental electronics accessible and tactile — inviting audiences to engage with sound as a shared, physical, and emotional experience. https://jenajang.com/
