On Wednesday, 2 December 2026, ACU Utrecht welcomes Banda Entopica: a Thessaloniki street band bringing the restless energy of the Balkans to the heart of Utrecht.

Born in the streets of Thessaloniki, Banda Entopica turns traditional music into a shared celebration. Clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, accordion, percussion, davul and vocals come together in a vibrant sound that moves between Macedonia, Thrace, Epirus and the wider Balkan Peninsula. Their music is rooted in tradition, but never locked in the past: familiar melodies are given new momentum through improvisation, rhythmic intensity and the unmistakable energy of a live band.

This is not a concert to experience from a distance. Banda Entopica’s performances are physical, spontaneous and deeply communal. A melody begins, the rhythm gathers force, and before long the boundary between stage and audience starts to disappear. Expect traditional songs, original compositions and songs in several Balkan languages, music made for dancing, singing along and sharing the moment.

The band’s name refers to entopica, “the local language”: a fitting name for musicians who celebrate the many voices, histories and traditions of the Balkans without turning them into borders. Their musical world is multilingual and proudly open; Greek, Slavic, Bulgarian, Turkish, Serbian and Romani influences can meet in the same joyful, high-energy celebration. As the band themselves say: “Our music is here to unite the whole world.”

Banda Entopica first found its audience by playing in the streets of Thessaloniki, where direct contact with passers-by became part of their musical identity. Their own description of those early performances captures the spirit of the band: they went out to play, found that the music connected with people, and “simply fit together.”

Whether you already know Balkan music or are hearing it for the first time, Banda Entopica invite you into a night of rhythm, movement and collective release.

The second European tour aims to bring this energy, this festive spirit, and the authentic Balkan sound of Banda Entopica to even more people, building on the success of their first tour and opening up new musical pathways.

Arda and the Giannena is a traditional Middle Eastern, Balkan, Greek, Ottoman music band with a new and revolutionary touch and style. The traditional aspects such as the Davul and the Ud that come from the Eastern Music Style mixed with the Guitar from the West create an intriguing sound. Merging the eastern melodies with the microtonal aspects and the western equal-temperament harmony system, the band focuses on taking a deep look at the possibilities these two different cultures can bring to the over all unity of music. Arda and the Giannena explores the world of electronic music and uses it in their music as well. Founded in 2021, the band has played many gigs, including venues like Tivoli Vredenburgh and many other places.
